Vyasa Puja

Srila Prabhupada’s Vyasa-Puja

In the material world which is full of miseries and entanglements, only a bonafide spiritual master is the ray of sun-beam, who enlightens our paths towards the Supreme Truth and pulls us out of our dark-consciousness. The Spiritual Master delivers his sincere disciples from the clutches of Maya by helping them re-establish their eternal relationship with Lord Krishna and engaging them in the loving devotional service.

Vyasa-Puja is an auspicious festival celebrated annually on the appearance day of the spiritual master. On this day, the disciples pay their sincere homage to their spiritual master for leading them on the path to Godhead. Vyasa-Puja has its etymology directly connected with Srila Vyasa Dev, the literary incarnation of Lord Krishna, who composed the Vedas, Puranas (of which Srimad Bhagavatam is the foremost), Mahabharata (that includes Bhagavad Gita, the essence of all Vedas) and Vedanta Sutras for the fallen conditioned souls of Kali-yuga. The transcendental knowledge is propagated to mankind through Guru parampara system starting from Lord Krishna Himself to our Acharya His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Thakur Srila Prabhupada.

In one of his lectures about Vyasa-Puja on August 23, 1971, Srila Prabhupada stated that-

Vyasa means guru, because he is our original guru. When spiritual master's birthday is observed, it is called Vyasa-puja. This Vyasa-puja means a spiritual master is representative of Vyasa. Just like we are teaching this bhagavat-dharma, the Srimad-Bhagavatam, we are following the footsteps of Vyasadeva. So actually the preacher's seat is Vyasadeva's asana.
It is the seat of Vyasa. Just like in the high court the seat, the seat of judgment, or... what is called? That seat, nobody else can sit there, in that seat. Only the high-court judge, representative of king or giving law to the citizens, he can sit down. Similarly, the vyasasana is occupied by the representative of Vyasadeva, who can speak on behalf of Vyasadeva. This is the system.

Srila Prabhupada is one of the most revered saint and spiritual master who, following the orders of his spiritual master His Divine Grace Srila Bhaktisiddhanta Saraswati Thakur Prabhupada, disseminated the transcendental message of Lord Krishna and the chanting of Holy Names of the Lord across the length and breadth of this planet irrespective of caste, creed, religion and gender of the seekers.

Srila Prabhupada fulfilled the prophecy of Sri Chaitanya Mahaprabhu that-

pṛthivīte āche yata nagarādi grāma
sarvatra pracāra haibe mora nāma

“In every town and village, the chanting of My name will be heard.”

This year, the appearance day of His Divine Grace A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Thakur Srila Prabhupada is being celebrated on August 25, 2019, on the auspicious day of Nandotsava. On this day, devotees all over the world offer their heartiest gratitude to Srila Prabhupada who distributed the transcendental knowledge about Lord Krishna, in its pure unalloyed form.
